General Laboratory and Equipment Operation Skills Programme

A 3-week intensive, hands-on training programme that equips participants with foundational laboratory knowledge and practical skills for careers in biotechnology, molecular biology, diagnostics, and research. The programme combines theory, real laboratory experience, and professional development to build technical competence, workplace readiness, and employability in the life sciences sector.

In collaboration with Regional Innovation Networking Platform (RINP) CSIR and the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI), UVU Bio, invites innovators, entrepreneurs, community innovators, traditional knowledge holders, and small enterprises working on products or services related to indigenous knowledge (IK) to apply for the Indigenous Knowledge Systems – Regional Innovation Support Programme (IKS RISP).

We have expanded our footprint with the opening of a new open access biotech lab in Rwanda. This facility is now operational and offers similar training programmes to support the growth of the biotech industry in the region.

Our first lab, and Africa’s first open access biotech facility, is located in Cape Town. The city is also home to our Bioeconomy Skills Centre, a facility dedicated to delivering specialised training programmes, equipping individuals with the skills needed to excel in the industry.
